We made a lifestyle change and decided to move to Tasmania in 2013. We purchased our lovely little cottage, complete with cabin, here in Glenorchy and moved down in September 2013.
We initially looked at the cabin as a place to have friends to stay, but soon realised the cost of accommodation is one of the main barriers to people on slender budgets being able to visit Tasmania. So we decided to make the cabin available at an affordable rate for visitors to our beautiful state.
We are at Glenorchy – just 15 mins from Hobart CBD! There is a great local fish & chippery (Two Skips) and Chinese (Yummy Yummy) and others I haven’t yet tried. The Cabin has an information folder with maps, menus and details of local attractions. There is also a small ‘lending library’ of books, on a ‘take one and replace it with another’ basis (in case you start reading and can’t finish in your time with us). There’s 4 op shops in Glenorchy so you’re bound to be able to find a book to replace one.

A few details about the Cabin

The cabin does have an ensuite – but you have to go out side and down 3 steps to get there.
The cabin is equipped with a double futon bed with a plain mattress, clothes rack and blanket box with extra duvets and blankets (handy to sit your cases on). There is a heater!
There’s a small table & 2 chairs, bar fridge, jug & toaster, flat sandwich toaster, small microwave, 2 electric hotplates and some crockery, cutlery and pots and pans and cooking implements. A few foodstuffs like ground coffee, tea etc are provided, plus small cartons of long life milk, for that all important cuppa when you arrive!
As of August 2016, we have enclosed the side annexe. No more washing in a bowl outside, we now have a kitchen annexe with running hot and cold! And this means a lot more room in the main area.
